Maintaining your Pram or Pushchair or Stroller.
Most common questions that comes in after buying a Pram or Pushchair or Stroller is - how to clean & maintain them?
If you think otherwise and maintenance is not important for you, then here are some points that you can ponder upon:
- Just like your car or bike - Pram/Stroller/Pushchair also needs to be cleaned regularly. Reducing wear and tear can extend the life of the pram and save money in the long run.
- How often you should you clean? Depends on how often you use it. Cleaning it once a month is a good idea while its good to deep clean it once in every 3-4 months.
- Simply try to clean-up simple messes as they happen. Wiping it down occasionally with a wet cloth is a good habit to start with.
- If you go on a regular outdoor excursions such like going to the beach or off-road walks, you’ll likely want to up that cleaning frequency. Don’t let dirt and debris make its ways into moving parts - which potentially could cause damage.
Here are some steps to follow while deep cleaning your Pram or Stroller
- Start with read the manufacturer’s instructions - it generally includes basic care instructions for the specific model and fabric material. Knowing how to properly remove pram components will make cleaning and putting the pram back together easier.
- Starting cleaning with liner, remove and wash it - usually could be hand-washed or even machine-washed.
- Clean a pram hood & plastic accessories. Some models will allow the hood to be removed from the frame. If so, remove and lay it flat before vacuuming any debris. Use a soft sponge to wash the plastic accessories with soapy water.
- Dust the seat and frame. Remove large debris and use soft-bristled brush to remove any dirt or crumbs from the seat and frame. A smaller vacuum head can help you clean all the hard-to-reach places, especially any moving parts or joints.
- Next is chassis:
- Last thing you want to do is scuff or damage the metal with abrasive materials.
- Most manufacturers will recommend using warm water and mild detergent for cleaning. You can simply soak a cleaning cloth in the solution and start cleaning the dirty areas. Get rid of all the stubborn stains and moulds.
- Then polish the parts with small, circular movements.
- Putting things back:
- Make sure all parts are dried thoroughly before reassembling.
- Moving parts such as the wheels and brakes may need some lubrication.
- Perform a general check on screws, accessories, and basket to look for damage or wear and tear.
- That’s it! Your Stroller/Pram/Pushchair will look good as new before you know it.
IMPORTANT: Always inspect all safety features before using. Double check all the moving parts, locking devices, brakes, catches, harness, and any joints - since they could impact your child's safety if they fall out of disrepair. Everything should work back in order.
